Martínez Somalo is a family business founded in 1900. Its brand La Gloria Riojana, registered in 1921, is the oldest brand of sausages and hams in Spain. It makes tasty and traditional products “as always” and aims to feed future generations, “like never before”. It is made with selected noble meats, paprika from La Vera with PDO, Añana salt, from ancient salt flats, and Garlic from Las Pedroñeras with PGI, all of them ingredients of recognized prestige.
SHOULD I TELL YOU A STORY?
Martínez Somalo is a company with soul. It was created in 1900 by our great-grandfather Don José Martínez Campo in Baños de Río Tobía (La Rioja). At that time, pork products were made and Don José marketed them in his town and in nearby towns.
The company is managed by the fourth generation of the family. The family spirit is maintained, along with valued and trusted professionals in management positions.
Our products are mainly traditional Spanish sausages and hams. Likewise, we have recovered products from yesteryear and created innovative products for which we have received relevant distinctions.
We hold several certifications and quality seals. We highlight the most important ones: BRC (British Retail Consortium), IFS (International Food Standard), Standard 14,001 (Environmental Management System), ETG (Guaranteed Traditional Specialty) of Serrano Ham, PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) of our Rioja Chorizo. We have had the innovative SME company seal awarded by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness since 2019.
We are committed to the people, to the town where we are located and to our autonomous community, La Rioja. We maintain great respect for all workers, clients and suppliers. In 2025, the company will celebrate 125 years of life.
