That “made in Spain” triumphs in the shopping basket in many foreign countries is no secret. Quality products such as Riojan chorizo are already part of the gastronomy of countries such as Germany, the United Kingdom, Portugal and France. In the latter, chorizo is a foodstuff produced in a traditional way and easy to incorporate into local recipes.

The wide gastronomic tradition in France, together with the importance that French consumers attach to the local origin of the food they consume, means that French products continue to be the most in demand, but it also opens the door to foreign foods that meet these criteria of quality and tradition, such as CHORIZO RIOJANO with the PGI quality seal.

Thanks to its taste for good food, select international products are increasingly consumed in France. Not in vain, in 2018, according to data from the Spanish Federation of Food and Beverage Industries (FIAB), France was the main recipient of Spanish food exports, with 4,783 million euros (15.7% of the sector's total foreign sales).

French consumers are looking for healthy, innovative and environmentally friendly products. They are increasingly demanding more transparency and information on food traceability and are more and more inclined to buy products of local, regional or at least national origin. It chooses to consume less, but eat better.

And it also attaches great importance not only to the food itself but to the act of eating. France has been and remains the bastion of the culture of good food and haute cuisine, although some consumption patterns are changing.

The French spend about 13% of their budget on food (between 100 and 400 euros per month), according to the latest market study. “The market for gourmet products in France 2020", published by ICEX.

Spanish gastronomic classics such as tapas, olives, Iberian ham or sausages such as chorizo are well known in France and are associated with the art of living and enjoying with friends. Thus, Spanish products fit perfectly with the French tradition of having an aperitif.

And it is in this scenario of flavour and fun, of careful gastronomy, where the chorizo from La Rioja finds its place thanks to its traditional preparation and the quality of its ingredients. Bon appétit!
